After welcoming Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Tehran last month – Iranian president Dr. Ahmadinejad said: “The Zionist regime is threat to all nations. It cannot tolerate the existence of any strong country in the region.” Even Israel’s former minister of education, Shulamit Aloni, seems to agreed with Ahmadinejad in a certain way. “Dignity and liberty in the Jewish state are only reserved for Jews,” she wrote in Only Jews deserve dignity?
The survey, conducted in October 2003, of 500 people from each of the EU’s member nations included a list of 15 countries with the question ‘tell me if in your opinion it presents or not a threat to peace in the world’. Israel was reportedly picked by 59 per cent of those interviewed (Guardian November 2, 2003).
Earlier, Erdogan in an interview with Guardian – accused the five permanent members of UNSC of hypocrisy. “While these countries put pressure on Iran which doesn’t have a nuclear weapon – they themselves keep nuclear arsenals for military purposes. On one hand you say you want global peace, on the other hand you are going to have such a destructive approach to a state which has 10,000 years of history. It’s not correct…… Turkey is firm in ite belief that Tehran’s nuclear program is peaceful….”
Erdogan, in reality, was showing Turkey’s own frustration on country being not allowed to construct nuclear plant for power-generation since its first bid in the 1960s. Turkey’s energy demand is one of the the highest (8%) among the developing nations. Europe’s energy demand increase is just a little over one percent. AKP government is planning to build two nuclear plants with combined capacity of 4500 megawatt by 2020 – if it’s allowed to remain in power by then. On May 16, 2009 – Putin told Erdogan that Russian companies are preparing bids to participate in building nuclear plants in Turkey.
Turkey’s bid to acquire nuclear energy, like its application to join EU (in 1958) is denied on simple reason that Turkey is a dominantly Muslim country (more than 98% population is Muslim). This has been admitted by the leaders of Germany and France recently. Next month, Ankara will know the EU’s final decision for its acceptance or non-acceptance in the “Christian Club”. Incidently, the same leaders are campaigning for the EU membership on a non-European country, Zionist Israel.
IAEA’s October proposal has been rejected conditionally by Tehran. The proposal called for the shipment of 75% of Iran’s enriched uranium fuel to Russia with no assurance that Tehran will receive fuel from France (already paid for) or other western country – for its medical isotope plant near Tehran. Iran’s Spiritual Leader Ayatullah Khameini is against taking such a risk – based on western hostility toward Islamic Revolution since 1980s.
In order to calm down Israeli nerves, Nuclear Watchdog’s (IAEA) out-going Director General, Mohamed ElBaradei, has proposed Turkey as the ‘3rd party’ in the nuclear deal. If approved by both Ankara and Tehran – the 75% of Iranian enriched nuclear fuel will be transfered into Turkey’s custody in Turkey while Russia, instead of France, will supply nuclear fuel for the medical isotope manufacturing plant near Tehran.
Israeli deputy foreign minister, Danny Ayalon, confirmed on November 7 that Israel intends to attack the Islamic Republic in December, if Tehran did not agree to USraeli demands. American officials has repeatedly saidIsrael has every right to launch a unilateral attack against Iran. Tel Aviv knows that such attack will be blamed on the US by Iranians and thus it would be the Americans who would have to die for Israel in the long run.
Personally, I am convinced that it would be good for the people of Turkey and Iran – if both governments reject this new proposal or any futere one for that matter, to ship Iranian asset to a foreign country. In case of Turkey, though AKP government is bending toward its neighbors, both pro-USrael and anti-USrael, the country is not immune to pro-USrael military coups against the civilian governments (1960, 1971, 1980, and 1997 so far). Furthermore, it would be very convenient for Israeli airforce to bomb the storage facility in Turkey as it did in Baghdad in the past and Syria a few years ago.
