Imran Khan – Can he save Pakistan from doom?

According to a recent poll by Pew Research Center, Pakistan’s famous cricket team captain, a philanthropist and and founder-chairman of a small nationalist political party Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan Niazi (born 1952) has become the most popular politician in the country. In popularity ratings shows, Imran Khan (68%) followed by Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif (63%), Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani (52%), Chief Justic Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhay (51%), Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani (37%) and President Asif Ali Zardari (11%).

Last year, Imran Khan in an interview told Mehdi Hasan of the New Statesman that by joining US ‘war on terror’, Gen. Pervez Musharaf did more damage to people of Pakistan than any other leader. He also said Obama should not copied Bush’s failed wars in Afghanistan and Iraq – and David Cameron made the same mistake by following Tony Blair’s foolish war policy against Muslims.

Imran Khan who spent of his youth in the West as a playboy – has some problem with the western mainstream political leaders. He doesn’t believe in western ‘War on Terror’, doesn’t agree with the ‘official 9/11 story’ (watch video below), doesn’t like America’s blind support for Israel or US drone attacks on Pakistan territory every four day which has killed over 700 civilians. Khan says Taliban are not ‘terrorists’ but ‘fundamentalists’. He says all Pakistani rulers have been ‘slaves’ to America and Pakistani elites have sold the country for personal finacial gains.

Such beliefs have put Imran Khan’s name in Zionists’ “anti-American” list – even though his multi-billionaire Jewish father-in-law, Sir James Goldsmith was one of UK’s donors to Israel.

Imran Khan is the only Pakistani political leader who has not been tried by Pakistani people while all the others have proven their anti-Pakistan nature during the last 64 years.

Like myself, Imran Khan, too, believe that it’s Muslims who need ‘reformation’ and not Islam. “No, not Islam – Muslims! Muslims need to reform themselves,” he tells Mehdi Hasan. “You need a proper intellectual debate to go on in the Muslim world“.
