A tree costs Israeli colonel’s life

On August 3, 2010 – an Israeli soldier tried to remove a tree along Israel-Lebanon border to improve its sightlines into Lebanon. The Israeli soldier was shot upon by a Lebanese military sniper. Israelis used tank, helicopter and artillery against the Lebanese military petrol for several hours. The clash resulted in the death of Israeli Lt. Col. Dov Hariri, two Lebanese soldiers and one journalist. Former Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz called the clash a “planned terror attack” and claimed that “he has no doubt Hizbullah was involved in the Lebanon Army’s actions on the border”. Naturally, who else in the Arab have defeated Israeli ‘braves’ other than Hizbullah freedom-fighters (in 2000 and 2006).

Since the minor border incident cost the precious life of an Israeli soldier – both the US and UN security Council had to jump-in to diffuse the tension.

The UN Security Council urged “utmost restraint.” US State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said, “The last thing that we want to see is this incident expand into something more significant.” Both the US and the UN said they were working to determine the exact circumstances of the fight.

How desperate the Zionist cowards have become to engage and dislodge Hizbullah before their intended nuking of Iran could be seen by two other recent provocations.

On July 15, UPI reported that a nine-member Israeli military team supported by three tanks crossed into Lebanese territory and tried to kidnap a Lebanese shepherd. The man fled to a joint checkpoint secured by UN peacekeepers and Lebanese military forces in the area. A joint team of Lebanese army and UN peacekeers has been set up to investigate the Israeli violation of the cease-fire.

On June 29, 2010 – On Israeli request French Defence Minister Herve Morin had ordered French contingent of UN peacekeepers (UNIFIL) to search the houses of Hezbollah activists in the villages of Khirbit Silm and Touline. Toting sticks and stones, the villagers wounded two of the soldiers.

The Lebanese Army deplored UNIFIL’s failure to co-ordinate with it while, at the same time, guaranteeing its protection. The Chief of Staff reaffirmed that the defense of Lebanon depended on the coordination between the Army and the Resistance.
